The First Nations Ensemble, is a group of young Aboriginal Women Hand Drum Singers. The group first formed in September 2009 and currently consists of (left to right) Brandy McCallum Cree/Blackfoot, Sharifah Marsden Annishnabe, Paisley Nahanee Squamish/Cree, Charlene Jugovich Wet'suwet'en, Amanda Nahanee Squamish/Nis'gaa, and Lacy Morin-Desjarlais Saulteaux (not shown).
Our focus is to be inclusive, to learn songs and drumming styles from all different First Nations to reflect the diversity of the group. We also participate in traditional arts workshops to learn drummaking, rattle making and regalia. All workshops are free to group members, snacks and bus tickets are provided.
We rehearse every Wednesday, from 6pm-8pm, at the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Center (Commercial & Hastings). At the present time, we are seeking new members of our group. If you are interested, you are welcome to join us at our rehearsal or for more info please contact Sharifah Marsden at 604-537-6507, or email nativeyouthartistscollective@gmail.com
